About the Course

Maryland has implemented new heat illness prevention standards to protect workers from heat-related illnesses and fatalities. These standards, which went into effect on September 30, 2024, require employers to implement plans to prevent and manage heat-related illnesses, especially when the heat index reaches 80°F or higher. The standards include requirements for providing cool, potable drinking water, encouraging hydration, training employees on heat illness symptoms, and providing shaded or cool rest breaks.
